I’m sometimes the only journalist following an important story. For instance, I was the first to report earlier this year that more children are showing up to immigration court without attorneys because the Trump administration cut funding for their legal representation.
That includes a 4-year-old migrant girl I saw alone, playing with a pink plushy toy, as an immigration judge told her the government of the United States wants to deport her.
I was the only reporter in the courtroom that day.
I’m able to dig into these critical stories because of the generosity of our readers who help fund the Gothamist and WNYC newsroom. Your support helps fund my reporting into the impacts of the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown in New York City.
As a not-for-profit, public media outlet, Gothamist depends on support from our readers . Not only do your donations make it possible for my colleagues and me to cover everything that’s going on in the City, but you also ensure that our reporting remains freely available to everyone in our community.
